Join us as acclaimed composer and curator Buck McDaniel, originally from Columbia, Mississippi, debuts his latest work for solo piano, Any Room Is A Room To Read In (after Eudora Welty), on Thursday, May 8.

Inspired by Eudora Welty’s essays and interviews on creativity and the significance of "place" for artists, McDaniel’s new composition offers an evocative tribute from one Mississippi artist to another. The program promises to deliver an engaging and heartfelt exploration of artistic process and identity.

Known for weaving storytelling into his compositions, McDaniel’s past projects include a collaboration with Sam Smith and Sharon Stone on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, a musical partnership with Paul Mescal in the upcoming feature film The History of Sound, compositions for NPR’s The Moth Radio Hour, and Memory Ground—a powerful commemorative piece marking the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, commissioned by The Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York in 2021.
