Collections Database

The Collections Database contains the LRMA inventory of artwork researchable by the public through the Past Perfect Online database system.  The database is a living inventory and will grow and change according to decisions made by the Curator of Collections and the Collections Committee.  Requests to obtain digital images can be submitted through use of the database.  If ordering multiple images, please refer to the Ordering Procedures outlined above.

Photo Archive

The Past Perfect Online database holds the archive of Laurel’s early city life in photographs from around the turn of the 20th century to approximately 1930.  Requests to obtain digital images can be submitted through use of the database.  If ordering multiple images, please refer to the Ordering Procedures outlined above

Library and Archive

The LRMA library serves as an art resource library for individuals and is a non-lending library. Patrons are welcome to browse the shelves but there is no attending librarian on staff.  The library is considered a static collection.

The Museum maintains its own archive history from 1923 to the present.  The archive also contains local history archives that focus on the early life of Laurel with particular focus on photos, articles, and pamphlets loosely spanning the years 1900-1930.

Within the Museum’s archive is the Gardiner Family Papers, collected, maintained, and donated by Catherine Marshall Gardiner, great-aunt to Lauren Eastman Rogers.  The Gardiner Family Papers contain distinct sections including the records of Eastman Gardiner & Co., Gardiner’s personal interests and business papers, travel letters, Gardiner’s basket collecting letters, and DAR papers.

The local history archive contains the following papers relating to early Laurel: business & industry to include Masonite’s early history, churches, clubs & organizations, general local history, people, and schools.

The archives are available for research by emailing Registrar Tommie Rodgers at TRodgers@LRMA.org. The request should contain a list of materials interested in viewing, purpose for research, expected outcome of research, and available research schedule. Please allow up to 5 business days to receive a response. Drop-in research is not available.

Photo Policy

While we appreciate a visitor’s enthusiasm to document their visit, please do so in the Museum’s lobby or front lawn.  Many artists (living or deceased) continue to hold copyright protection of their artwork and do not wish to have their work shared on social media sites or published in any way without their permission.

  • The Museum allows amateur cell phone photography without the use of added equipment in its permanent collection unless otherwise posted.
  • The Museum does not allow “glamour shots” in the galleries.
  • Photography of loaned exhibits is not allowed unless otherwise stated.
